Brewing 101

Welcome to Brewing 101

Whether you're new to specialty coffee or looking to refine your technique, mastering the fundamentals of brewing will transform your daily cup into a mindful ritual.

The Golden Ratio

Start with a 1:15 coffee-to-water ratio. For every gram of coffee, use 15 grams of water. This is your baseline—adjust to taste from here.

Water Temperature

Aim for 195-205°F (90-96°C). Water that's too hot will over-extract and taste bitter; too cool will under-extract and taste sour.

Grind Size Matters

Match your grind to your brewing method: coarse for French press, medium for drip, fine for espresso. Fresh grinding just before brewing makes all the difference.

Bloom Your Coffee

Pour just enough water to saturate the grounds and wait 30-45 seconds. This releases CO2 and allows for better extraction.

Take Your Time

Brewing great coffee is a practice in presence. Enjoy the process, the aroma, and the ritual. Each cup is an opportunity to find your zen.
